Students should not have to wear school uniforms because many students dislike dressing the same way as other people. They should be able to dress for themselves. Also, they might not want to wear the same clothing pieces every day of school. I think that students should vote on wearing school uniforms in the beginning of the year.
Some people think that only Catholic schools should wear school uniforms to respect their religion and because you pay to go to private schools. I think most schools wear uniforms to show pride in their school. We live in a nation with freedom of choice, so we should be able to decide if we want to wear school uniforms or not. Nobody should be telling us what we have to wear. According to debate.org “Students should be able to express not only by character but by style or fashion.” Also, “Students should be able to express their feelings and emotions by wearing regular clothes.” Information from Debate.org shows that 42% of students want to wear uniforms and 58% say no. I talked to a few students and found that many people in our school agree. Ashley Schillinger said “I Would have to agree because kids get their own sense of styles and parents might not have enough money to buy school uniforms for their kids to where every day.” Alex Burslem stated, “I don’t like uniforms because parents have to pay for them and you can’t show your individuality when you wear school uniforms.” Though Mrs. Hochadel said “I think it is a good idea to wear school uniforms because some kids like to compare what other kids wear. I also think that kids should get to wear what they want.”
From all of the information I collected I believe that students should not have to wear school uniforms because they want to wear clothes that express their individuality. We live in the United States where we have certain freedoms and one of those freedoms is the right to choose where you live, what you drive, and clothes you want to wear. If we are told what we can or cannot wear in school, then we are conforming to a society of copycats with no individual expression. I say be yourself, be expressive, and unique. Wear what makes you happy!
