With the debate of if eSports is a real sport, many people support the side of Electronic Sports being a real sport. Most disagree due to the fact of it is competitive video games so there must be no athletic skill involved besides clicking a mouse and pressing a few keys, but that’s only what we see as viewers. Scientists at the German Sports University conducted a study of eSports athletes and we very surprised with the results. The studies showed that the competitive video game players are exposed to almost or just as much physical strains as a “normal” athlete. Professor Ingo Froböse began studying eSports athletes five years ago. “The eSports athletes achieve up to 400 movements on the keyboard and the mouse per minute, four times as much as the average person.” says Froböse. When eSports athletes take part in a competition, it must look to the layman as if the players are just randomly hammering at their keyboards and moving their mice, but Froböse rejects this notion. He notes that strategy games such as Counter Strike or League of Legends are extremely complex, because in addition to the motor skills required, the games require a high degree of tactical understanding for an athlete to defeat his opponent. In the World’s 2015 LoL (League of Legends) competition, the total viewer count was over 36,000,000 worldwide. The 2015 ESL One Cologne competition for CS:GO (Counter-Strike Global Offense) reached just above 27,000,000 viewers, again, worldwide. The total viewers for eSports in 2015 across all tournaments and competitive matches exceeds 111,086,704 total viewers across America, Europe, Asia, Canada, and more. The prediction for the 2016 year will see the Esports Economy grow to $463 million, a year-on-year growth of 43%, entertaining an audience of 131 million Esports Enthusiasts and another 125 million Occasional Viewers who tune in mainly for the big international events. The most recent event in 2016 was MLG Vegas in December on the 16th-18th. The next MLG event will be Atlanta happening on February 10th-12th for CoD IW (Call of Duty Infinite Warfare.) The government has recognized eSports as an official sport due to players from around the world requiring Visa passes into the U.S. for these events, however Media, and many others do not approve of the thought in which video games are an official sport.
