Many people believe that the death penalty should not be allowed, but many other people would argue otherwise. Debate.org reported that, “56% of people believe that the death penalty shouldn’t be banned, but 44% of people think it should”. The death penalty should not be banned. Or only let it be used when there is factual information, and or proven evidence about the crime such as; fingerprints, pictures, or verbal and background information.
America is using tons of money to put criminals in prison for life. The government is paying so much money for prisoners when they do nothing for law abiding citizens. The government should use our tax money to build homes for the homeless, feed the hungry, or promote better education for those in need. We the people have our tax dollars used, to house the criminals who hurt us every day. Projectcentered.org said, “The number of prisoners serving life sentences in Washington D.C in 2012 is close to 160,000”.
People need to take action. Crime victims who have suffered want the criminal convicted and punished. How could you think knowing that the criminal that did that to you is still alive and is getting fed by your parent’s money? It is a fact that teenagers are prone to suicide after rape trials and kidnappings. After criminal offences victims and their family’s physiological wellbeing’s are harmed. Often criminals do not seem to suffer as bad as the victims and their families do.
The history of the death penalty goes way back. The death penalty started when a king committed 25 crimes during the eighteenth century B.C. Many agreed back then, and now, that the
penalty by death was the right thing to do. In the seventeenth century, B.C.’s Draconian Code of Athens made death the only punishment for all crime. Britain also influenced America’s use of the death penalty more than any other country. America is not the only country that uses the death penalty. This is not an unfair thing that America is doing. Almost all countries have the death penalty. The first recorded execution in the colonies was Captain George Kendall in the Jamestown colony of Virginia in 1608. Death penalties are part of our nation’s history.
Although many people think that the death penalty may be wrong, when death penalties are used correctly they are getting criminals off of the street. The U.S should not use our money to keep criminals alive for so long after they did something so wrong. The death penalty was used back in 1608, and it was working. The people that are hurt and their families don’t want the people that hurt them alive after what they did. Criminals cause society so much pain. It is only fair that they pay the ultimate price by losing their right to live.
