African Americans still don’t get equality among all races, especially whites. The Black Lives Matter Campaign started because of this. The people who are involved in this unionized group, are courageous and strong, to alter the views of Americans. Many people thought that this group was unnecessary, and just caused stress for our country. On the other hand, some might feel as if it is helping our country, to spread awareness of the fact that African Americans still are not treated the same as whites.
The Black Lives Matter Campaign started due to a gruesome shooting. A man put his hands up, did not have any weapons on him and got shot by a white police officer. This struck outrage throughout America for those who were angry about African Americans not having enough rights, which is still true. Many believe this would not have happened if it were a white man. “Cops killed nearly twice as many whites as blacks in 2015.”, according to data compiled by The Washington Post. African Americans are often blamed for crimes when they did not do anything wrong. Several people discriminate against blacks which is unnecessary.
African Americans have been outraged by several “Stop and Frisks”. A “Stop and Frisk” is when a police office (usually white) sees an African American man on the streets or driving, and just stops them while assuming they already did something wrong. That would most likely not happen if it were to be a white man. According to www.huffingtonpost.com, “U.S. police killed at least 258 black people in 2016, according to a project by The Guardian that tracks police killings in America. Thirty-nine of these people were unarmed.” These deaths were seen as racism coming from the police officer, because some of the people killed were unarmed. The Black Lives Matter Campaign spreads awareness that racism is still going on, and it’s giving Americans all around the country the sad truth.
African Americans today still do not have equal rights with white citizens. Even though that may be hard to see in daily lives, it is happening all around the world every day. Some may think the Black Lives Matter Campaign is causing stress to our country, but in the end it is really important for everyone to be exposed and realize that equality is not quite there for all.
