Many schools in the United States have considered putting radio frequency tracking devices in students’ ID cards. Most students would think that this is an awful idea. Well, they are wrong. These tracking devices can help keep students safe and make sure they do not step out of line. Some people would argue that this is an invasion of privacy, but what do the students have to hide? Radio frequency tracking devices will make life much better for students, and all schools should implement this.
People think these tracking devices are terrible ideas for multiple reasons. One of the many concerns of this technology is that it can be hacked and then used by anyone to locate students. With the rapid advancement of technology, it is becoming much harder to hack security, so by the time student tracking IDs are implemented, security will be more advanced and the systems will be impenetrable. Another concern is that schools are not financially prepared for this technology, but if the schools really cared about their students, they would find money to install these tracking devices. A great amount of students are worried that these tracking devices cannot be turned off and that teachers will always know where they are off of school grounds. Well let me ask you, what teacher would stay after school to watch their students’ locations? The one flaw with these miracle devices is that they can be lost or removed and left in school while a student sneaks off. Well, never fear, there is an easy solution. Do not put them in the ID cards. Implant the device in the students’ heads or clothes as they do with pet tracking devices. Good luck losing that.
A major benefit of this technology, is that it can keep students safe. With the radio frequency in the chip, teachers can listen to all of the conversations and tell if students are being bullied. In case of a bigger emergency such as a fire, teachers can find any missing students and make sure they are safe. Outside of school grounds, kidnappings can occur and it is not easy to just locate a missing child. Well, if the student has their ID with them, the school can track their location and find them. Most importantly, these trackers can find students who are skipping class. A good education is vital for success in the real world, so students should not be skipping school in the first place. With the help of these devices, we can keep students safe while making sure they do not miss out on the education they need.
One of the biggest issues students have with this idea is that it is an invasion of privacy. What do students have to hide? Are they doing drugs? Are they planning on sneaking out of school? Are they sharing secrets? Well, privacy should not be an issue because students should not be doing anything bad like drugs or ditching class, and we all know that secrets do not make friends. In a Prezi by Rida Raza, it is stated, “…the technology was originally designed for shipping goods and cattle. It was never meant for people”. This logic is flawed. The technology was originally made for cattle and shipping goods, but that does not mean it cannot be used on students. Tracking devices will never reach their full potential if they are limited to the use of cattle and goods. Another claim made in this Prezi is, “Putting trackers in students ID cards takes their freedom away and tells them they aren’t responsible enough to take care of themselves”. This logic is also flawed. Students are not responsible enough to take care of themselves. If they were, they would be working full-time jobs and would be making their own living. Students also should not have freedom, they are just lazy, conniving animals that make no contribution to society. They are lucky to have an education and are ungrateful if they try and fight these ID cards.
Whoever came up with the idea of putting radio frequency tracking devices into ID cards is a genius. There are so many benefits and students should not be worried because they have nothing to hide. Radio frequency tracking IDs should be used in all schools because they can solve multiple problems all at once.
