College athletes should be paid money because a lot of people benefit off of them besides themselves. The college makes money, and the NCAA makes billions of dollars off of the colleges. This unfair for the students because they make absolutely no money off of their skills until they go professional and most college athletes don’t even go professional. If college students get paid they might even stay longer in college.
From my source “moneynation.com” the NCAA makes on average $989,000,000 off of colleges. While the college makes on average $6,100,000,000 off of tickets and merchandise from basketball and from all athletics on average colleges make $12,389,000,000. If the schools make this much money they certainly have enough money to pay the student athletes. John Calipari the coach from University of Kentucky Basketball made $6.3 million. If he split his yearly income in half, he would still have $3,150,000 dollars left. Then if he gave the other half of his income to the players on the team, they would each get $157,500 per year that amount of money is more than enough to get a person started off in life. This is why I think college athletes should be paid money.
