School uniforms should never be required in schools. They are stupid, and they limit students’ creativity. Without school uniforms students can express themselves in more ways that just words. They can show how they feel using their clothes, or what jewelry they are wearing. A student in HF-L said “They limit our creativity and prevents us from showing who we truly are.” This student is avidly against school uniforms, and for a good reason. Some people in support of school uniforms said that it decreased bullying, but Tony Volk, PhD, Associate Professor at Brock University, stated, "Overall, there is no evidence in bullying literature that supports a reduction in violence due to school uniforms." proving that school uniforms don’t prevent bullying. Also school uniforms distract because they are almost always uncomfortable and scratchy, this makes it hard to focus and teachers don’t want students to be distracted. Last the school uniforms are always quite expensive. They are usually suits and ties for the boys and dresses for the girls. But it is expensive to buy five suits or dresses, one for each day, and if you choose to only buy one, it will be expensive to wash it every day. School uniforms are distracting, expensive and a huge waist to people’s time and money. Hopefully all schools will discard this stupid idea and let the children keep their freedom to choose.
