There are many incidents where schools have had urgent emergencies such as school shootings that they were not prepared for. If an intruder enters the school building and can cause a threat, schools do not have a quick and efficient method of response, A simple solution to this issue is allowing teachers to carry guns with them.
Teachers should be allowed to carry guns in school because they provide defense for everybody in the building, they can stop people from posing a threat, and you can only guarantee protection from the worst. If every teacher in a school building carried a gun, the schools would be much safer because there would be defense every 10 feet. There were a total of 26 tragic deaths in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. If teachers were carrying guns during this situation, there would have been little to no deaths. The threat that the shooter posed would not have been there if the shooter was taken down before any deaths occurred. Georgia representative Alan Powell said, “You can’t control what bad people do. You can only guarantee people their constitutional right to protect themselves” This means that people can only be prepared for the worst that could happen in a situation. The superintendent of the Bibb County School District, Steve Smith, argues that, “All the training in the world as to how to shoot a gun, but knowing when to shoot (is) a major problem”. This would not be a problem because if an intruder had a weapon and was causing a threat, it would be a very easy decision.
In conclusion, schools would be much safer if teachers were allowed to carry guns. Schools would be able to react properly to a dangerous incident in the building. Everybody in the building would be comfortable creating a safe and focused learning environment.
