The Issue:
One of the most debatable topics in the 2016 presidential election was the topic of Obamacare. Obamacare is known to have both positive and negative aspects to the system.
Why Obamacare is good for America:
Obamacare has had astonishing impacts on the lower class of Americans. Since Obamacare's implementation in 2014 under Obama’s administration, it has supplied millions of Americans with free healthcare, “Obama has said that 20 million people gained coverage through the three parts of the ACA” (Bloomberg 2016). The amount of uninsured Americans has fallen dramatically over the years since it was implemented. Obamacare can grant almost any American that would like to have a healthcare plan no matter how sick they are or how poor they are. With all these amazing aspects of the system, there are still some downsides to the program.
Why Obamacare is bad for America:
Although Obamacare has had some great impacts on America, there are still some negative side effects to the program. To start off Obamacare is free for the lower class, which means someone has to pay for the expense for the Americans that have Obamacare. The cost for Obamacare goes into taxes that lands on the Americans in the middle and upper classes. The Republicans oppose the system for that very reasons. Citizens have to pay enormous amounts of money for other people's healthcare and they often claim that the people with Obamacare are lazy and do not work for their own health. With all the upsides and downsides to this program, the future of Obamacare is uncertain with new president Donald Trump being elected.
Obamacare's future:
With President Trump now in office he plans to remove Obamacare. It has yet to be announced what the new healthcare system would be if Obamacare was removed. What is certain is that some big new changes to healthcare will happen with Donald Trump now in office, “During the campaign, Trump did not really say how he would replace Obamacare. He said he wouldn't give people money to buy insurance” (Bloomberg 2016).
In Conclusion, although Obamacare’s future is uncertain, it still helped for the better or the worse. Even though the Americans in the middle class had to pay for some of the Americans without healthcare, lives were still saved whatever the cost it had for some people.
