Violent video games is a highly debated topic between kids and adults. Many adults and professors believe that violent video games can cause people to become more violent themselves. However, they may have falsely accused video games.
“More than 90% of children in the United States play video games” says the Psychological group in reference to video games. This makes finding someone who both committed a crime and plays video games not difficult. In the UK there are more violent games played, but still they have a lower gun incidence rate. Why? Because it is not the video game’s fault at all, it is in fact the user that is causing problems. Many crime incidences in the U.S. have involved mentally unstable people. So it is not accurate to blame video games. As said by the supreme court “They do not prove that violent video games cause minors to act aggressively.” They said this in response to an attempt to ban the selling of violent video games to minors in California.
However, video games have affected youth violence in ways. Studies have shown that kids who play violent video games are more likely to act violently or to bully in schools. Also, some video games include mindless killing which numbs kids to the point where it is normal to kill. Another way they have affected the youth is that video games with realistic controllers have stimulated violence. For example, 2015 peer-reviewed study found "compelling evidence that the use of realistic controllers can have a significant effect on the level of cognitive aggression.". This shows that the use of violent video games can lead to aggression as well as continued believe that violence in not bad.
