Feminism should be supported because women deserve equal rights to men. 82 percent of Americans agree with the statement “men and women should be equal” yet only 49 percent of Americans agree with that statement Feminism should still be supported.
Feminism in simple terms is giving women all equal rights that men have. Although it may seem like women created are equal they are really not. Currently women are not payed the same amount as men for doing the same amount of work but, being payed less. Also, there are more male CEOs than female, and only 20 percent of females are part of the Senate or the House of Representatives. 1 in 5 women have been sexually assaulted, while only 1 in 71 males have been sexually assaulted. This is wrong and needs to be stopped, men and women should be equal and not separated based on gender.
How did feminism start some people may ask? Well the history behind it is organized feminism did not really begin until the first Women's Conference held at Seneca Falls, in 1848. To begin with, the Women's Rights Movement evolved out of social reform groups, like the Social Purity and Temperance movements. Feminism started to become most popular upon women in the 1960's and 70's. The feminist movement of the 1960's and 70's originally focused on dismantling workplace inequality, such as denial of access to better jobs and salary inequity based on gender, via anti-discrimination laws. Feminism is still important today and should be kept that way.
